Yaroslavl Academic Governor's Symphonic Orchestra is considered one of the leading and the most authoritative among those of Russia. It was established in 1944. For the years of its existence the orchestra has known a lot of true creative enthusiasm accompanied by wide social respect. In the course of time there were different conductors in the head of the orchestra, and each of them added his own page to its richest repertoire chronicles. The orchestra owes its renomé and its rich traditions of performing to such conductors as Alexander Umansky, Yuri Aronovich, Victor Barsov, Pavel Yadykh, Timour Mynbaiev, Vladimir Ponkin, Vladimir Vais, Igor Golovchin.
In 1994 the orchestra got led by Murad Annamamedov and this produced a range of new qualificative changes. The public's steady interest to the symphonic concerts proves to be connected with the variety of the repertoire, the originality of organizing of concert programs and surelt by the orchestra's growing level of performing. The staff presents a well-regulated mechanism that combines the depth of artistic projects with highly-developed infrastructure.
In the recent years the orchestra has been rather enthusiastic. The traditionally formed symphonic cycles which meet the tastes of all the spectators go side by side with outstanding opera and ballet projects (Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker, K.Khatchaturian's Chippolino; G.Rossini's opera The Barber of Seville, G.Verdi's Traviata, G.Puccini's Tosca and Chio-Chio-San, G.Bizet's Carmen, P.Tcaikovsky's The Queen of Spades, Eugene Onegin, Iolanta, A.Borodin's Prince Igor, S.Rakhmaninov's Aleco...).
Yaroslavl Academic Governor's Symphonic Orchestra enjoys great success with the public and frequently goes on tour to different cities of central and nothern Russia Vladimir, Ivanovo, Vologda, Kostroma, Syktyvkar, Rostov, Uglich and many others.

In 1996 taking into account the achievements of the staff and the dominating role of the orchestra in the region the Governor of the Yaroslavl Region Anatoly Lisitsin took the orchestra under his personal guard. And thus, the creative results of the orchestra's work intensified by the Governor's support put Yaroslavl orchestra into the position of the most highly-developed and the most stable symphonic orchestras in the country.
In 1999 by order of the Minister of Culture thу orchestra was given the honorary title Academic.
Today Yaroslavl Academic Governor's Symphonic Orchestra proves to be in excellent form and is able to react adequately even to the gravest tour projects.

The repertoire of Yaroslavl Academic Governor's Symphonic Orchestra is really diverse. The orchestra's omnivorousness inspired by Yaroslavl conductors, as well as a number of conductors coming to the city on tour, applies both to music of Bach period and to that of modern composers' style.
Along the years of its existence, the orchestra turned to musical cycles, performing all the symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms, Shuman, Tchaikovsky, Skriabin, Rakhmaninov, Prokofiev, Shostakovich and other composers.
